Udny Community and its Turbine wins major green award

The Udny Community has won the Scottish Green Awards Community Initiative in Edinburgh last night.

Udny’s local Councillor and active participant and supporter, Cllr Paul Johnston said: “Great news and welcome recognition for the group of dedicated individuals in our community who have taken this project to fruition”

Chairman of the Group is local Community Council Chairman Brian Macdougall, and he accepted the award on behalf of the whole community.

“The project has inspired other groups in the north-east to take action.  And in turn we have been inspired by other members of Scotland’s Community Trust movement” said Cllr Johnston. “Udny’s award adds to the list – but we hope more for what will come out of the whole community rather than just awards for its construction.  we are not forgetting this is a means to an end in creating a sustainable community rather than an end in itself by building the turbine.”
