Following the First Balmedie Farmers Market on Saturday 30th June, Balmedie and Mid Formartine Councillor Paul Johnston said:
“Congratulations to the White Horse Inn at Balmedie for sponsorship and organising a farmers market for the village. Some excellent stalls, Ola Oils, The Store at Foveran and Devenick Diary along with Granite City Fish caught my eye. All fine products. I hope it was both worth their while and that there will be a return visit.”
The Better Balmedie group joined the market stalls and local craft people had stalls in the function room of the white Horse inn.
“At a recent Formartine area committee meeting, I called for more support for producers to encourage more people to start their food and produce businesses and attend Farmers markets. The quality of food and produce here in the North East is superb, but we have huge potential to grow our businesses sustainably this way.” said Councillor Johnston. Paul has suggested Oldmeldrum as another possible venue if new local food producers can be encouraged to try it out.
