Aberdeenshire Councillor and beer campaigner Paul Johnston has welcomed the surprise move from the chancellor in its budget to scrap the beer duty escalator and reduce beer duty by 1p a pint.
” I wholeheartedly welcome the Chancellor’s acceptance of the argument put forward by beer duty campaigners such Greg Mulholland MP and members of all parties who joined with CAMRA for this campaign.”
“Stopping the beer duty escalator will give a welcome boost to the craft beer industry which can produce world beating local products. With successful brewers such as BrewDog locally and over 50 other craft breweries in Scotland, this will be welcomed as a step in the right direction. In fact, the relief that finally, the beer and pub industry has been listened to, is the relief you get when you stop banging your head against a wall.” said Cllr Johnston.
Paul continues to campaign for the Scottish Government to have a minister responsible for the expansion of the successful Scottish brewing and pub industry.
