The wonderful Fairtrade annual sale returns this year to Anne and Richard Aspden’s house at the end of Bonnyton Road in Pitmedden.

You will always receive a warm welcome.

Fairtrade is not about charity but simply about trade justice. Ask yourself if the person who is making the food or object is in the position to fairly negotiate the price – and the power of the buyer is not excessive. A fair price should mean a fair chance for the producer or maker to have a sustainable living.

Without trade justice, there will be descent to a cycle of poverty and inequality.

Without trade justice we will not unlock the potential of people and their trade. We will all be poorer for it.

That is I will be supporting Fairtrade and doing some ethical shopping next week.
